What can I do during a power outage?

1. Check if the entire neighborhood is without power See if street lights are on and whether neighbors also have no power. If so, it’s likely a regional outage. If needed, call the national outage number or check your grid operator’s website. 2. Check the meter cupboard Only your home without power? The issue is likely within your installation. Carefully follow these steps: Switch off all circuits. Switch the residual-current device (RCD) back on. Can’t switch it back on? It may be defective - contact a professional. If the RCD stays on, unplug all devices in the house. Turn circuits back on one by one and reconnect devices per circuit. Does the RCD trip when a device is connected? That device is likely the cause. Unplug it. 3. Not sure what’s wrong? It could be overload, an old junction, or a faulty RCD. Don’t attempt repairs yourself if you’re unsure. When should I replace my consumer unit?

Accepted Answer

The consumer unit is the heart of your electrical installation. Replacement is needed for outdated fuse boxes, renovations, or when switching to high-power appliances such as induction hobs, solar panels, or EV chargers. New consumer units must have a main switch and at least one RCD per four final circuits. Since 1975, RCDs are mandatory in new installations. Note: existing units must comply with regulations that applied at the time of installation. Still, modernising older setups often improves safety. Always have this done by a professional. What are your rates?

Our labour rates start from  €50 per uur  (excl. VAT). Outside office hours we charge a surcharge: 150% after 17:00 and on Saturdays, 200% on Sundays and public holidays. Do I need to replace my entire installation during a renovation?

Accepted Answer

Not always. Sometimes replacing a few circuits or adjusting the existing installation is sufficient. We assess this based on your wishes and the condition of the current installation.

Is a new distribution board required for a kitchen renovation?

Accepted Answer

Not required, but often necessary if you're switching to heavier equipment or getting more appliances in your kitchen like an induction cooktop or combi microwave. We're happy to advise you on this.
